Understanding Public Health Data & Disease Reporting

How Two Rivers Public Health Department Uses Health Data to Protect Our Communities

At Two Rivers Public Health Department (TRPHD), we use health data to better understand the health of our communities, identify emerging concerns, and help prevent the spread of disease.

We serve Buffalo, Dawson, Franklin, Gosper, Harlan, Kearney, and Phelps Counties. By monitoring health trends across our seven-county district, we can provide reliable information to residents, healthcare providers, and community leaders.

Where Does Our Health Data Come From?

TRPHD works closely with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), healthcare providers, laboratories, and other public health partners to collect and review health information.

This information helps us monitor:

  • Communicable diseases, such as influenza and tuberculosis
  • Foodborne illnesses, including Salmonella and E. coli
  • Sexually transmitted infections
  • Environmental health concerns, including lead exposure
  • Emerging health threats and disease outbreaks

How Do We Make Sure Our Data Is Accurate?

Accurate information helps communities make informed decisions.

Our public health team reviews disease reports, verifies information, and works with state and local partners to identify and resolve discrepancies.

Because health information comes from multiple sources, reported numbers may change as new information becomes available. Some reports may also take additional time to confirm.

We are committed to sharing the most accurate and up-to-date information available.

How Do We Protect Your Privacy?

Protecting personal health information is a priority at TRPHD.

We follow applicable privacy requirements and use secure systems and procedures to safeguard confidential health information.

When sharing public health data, we work to protect individual privacy while providing useful information about community health trends.

Why Does Public Health Data Matter?

Reliable health information helps TRPHD and our community partners:

  • Identify health concerns: Recognize disease outbreaks and changing health trends.
  • Prevent illness: Provide timely education and prevention resources.
  • Plan services: Identify where public health programs and resources are needed most.
  • Support decisions: Help community leaders make informed public health decisions.
  • Track progress: Measure improvements in community health over time.

Our Commitment To You

TRPHD is committed to providing accurate, timely, and understandable public health information. We continually work with our partners to improve data quality, protect privacy, and help our communities make informed health decisions.
